All elements in place for Moto sun/wind cell stations

23 Nov 2007

Motorola has successfully completed a trial of a wind- and solar-powered GSM bases station in Namibia, on the network of MTC Namibia (not affiliated with the former MTC Group, now Zain). Since May 2007, a solar array and a wind turbine have generated the electricity to power a ‘mid-sized’ cellular site and support a microwave backhaul link. Based on the success of the trial, and similar tests in the UK, the US-based vendor says that its renewable energy solutions are now available on a commercial basis.
