Tatung expects WiMAX deal in New Year

Taiwanese WiMAX licensee Tatung Telecom says it expects to ink a deal for 200 WiMAX base stations early next year. Tatung, which holds a licence to offer WiMAX services in southern Taiwan, recently signed a contract with NEC for the supply of 197 WiMAX base stations under the government’s M-Taiwan project. It has yet to decide whether to enter direct negotiations with NEC over the new contract or open a new tender to invite bids from other vendors, DigiTimes reports. Tatung plans to launch its first WiMAX services in Kaohsiung City in October 2008.
