Mobily plans USD1 billion expansion

The Saudi cellular operator Mobily says it is investing SAR4 billion (USD1.07 billion) over the next two years to expand and upgrade its wireless broadband networks. The firm recently acquired WiMAX operator Bayanat al-Oula and is committed to enlarging both its 3G cellular and its WiMAX systems. Mobily has already spent SAR5.2 billion on its network rollout in Saudi Arabia since it was established in 2005. Meanwhile, Mobily says it has signed a nationwide roaming agreement with the country’s third cellular licensee, Zain, which is due to begin operations next year.
