Vonage to pay USD120 million to settle patent dispute

16 Nov 2007

Vonage Holdings Corp has been ordered to pay USD120 million to settle its patent dispute with Verizon Communications after a federal court ruling yesterday denied the VoIP provider’s request to revisit the case. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit denied Vonage’s request which, had it been successful, would have reduced Vonage’s settlement payment to USD80 million, under the terms of the settlement announced 25 October. The USD120 million total settlement comprises USD117.5 million to Verizon and USD2.5 million to be paid to undisclosed charities.
