Google gearing up for USD4.6b wireless spectrum bid

16 Nov 2007

Google Inc is believed to be preparing to mount a serious bid to secure wireless spectrum in the Federal Communications Commission auction in January, the Wall Street Journal reports. The company is understood to be ready to go it alone in the bid, the Journal said, and is currently working on a plan to finance its bid which could run to more than USD4.6 billion. The funding would be raised both from internal means and some borrowing. Google, which is running a test version of an advanced wireless network at its Mountain View, California headquarters, declined to comment.
