US wireless operator MetroPCS Communications has announced its financial and operational results for the quarter ended 30 September 2007. The company reported third quarter growth in consolidated adjusted EBITDA of 70% over the third quarter of 2006, on the back of a 41% year-on-year rise in revenues to USD557 million. Income from operations was USD133 million in 3Q07, up 92% on the same period a year earlier. MetroPCS said it generated net income of USD53 million compared with USD29 million for the third quarter of 2006, an increase of 81%.
‘We are pleased with this quarter’s results, highlighted by strong year-over-year adjusted EBITDA growth and the addition of approximately 114,000 subscribers. It is noteworthy to point out that we’ve added these subscribers during our third quarter, which historically has been one of our seasonally slowest quarters characterised by lower net additions and higher churn. In the past twelve months, we have grown our subscriber base by over one million subscribers, and grown our quarterly EBITDA by over 70%’, said Roger D Linquist, MetroPCS’ chairman and chief executive officer.
MetroPCS reported having 3.664 million mobile subscribers at the end of the period under review, up from 2.616 million at end-September 2006. Blended monthly ARPU was USD42.77, down marginally from USD42.78, and churn was up slightly from 5% to 5.2%.
