Sales up but profits down at Telekom Austria

14 Nov 2007

The Telekom Austria Group has reported a 2% year-on-year increase in revenues to EUR3.63 billion (USD5.3 billion) in the first nine months of this year. A strong performance by the group’s international operations was behind the rise in sales, but a lower contribution from domestic fixed line services and costs associated with new ventures in Serbia and Macedonia saw EBITDA fall 4.7% to EUR1.46 billion and net profits drop 9.4% to EUR451.5 million. The group claimed 2.48 million fixed lines in service at the end of September, down 8.3% from a year earlier, but the number of ADSL broadband subscribers grew 7.8% to 722,100. Mobile operations saw strong growth, with customer numbers up 14.8% year-on-year to 11.2 million, excluding the two new operations.
