UOL net profit up 36% y-o-y in Q3

Brazilian internet service provider Universo Online (UOL) reported net profits of BRL31.9 million (USD18 million) in the three months ended 30 September 2007, up 36% from BRL23.4 million in the same period of 2006, the company said in a statement. UOL’s gross revenues climbed 14% year-on-year to BRL180 million, of which subscriptions accounted for BRL134 million (10%) and advertising sales BRL46.4 million (29%). Third-quarter EBITDA was BRL37.3 million, up 13% on the previous year; the EBITDA margin was down one percentage point at 28%. By the start of October UOL reported 972,000 paying broadband subscribers, up 29% on the same time a year ago.
