Sprint, Clearwire drop nationwide WiMAX plan – paper says

9 Nov 2007

Sprint Nextel and Clearwire are abandoning their joint agreement to build a nationwide high speed WiMAX network, reports The Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the situation. The pair announced the plan to build a network capable of reaching a potential 300 million people in July this year, but now say complexities over the deal, coupled with the departure of Sprint CEO Gary Forsee, have made it impossible to reach a final pact. Clearwire and Sprint had originally planned to give each other’s customers access to their networks and promote the service under one brand. A spokesman for Sprint said, ‘We’re just not going to comment on that story,’ while Clearwire remained tight-lipped.
