Tele Norte Celular Participacoes (Amazonia Celular), mobile operator in the states of Amapa, Amazonas, Maranhao, Para and Roraima in Brazil, reported a net loss of BRL8.2 million (USD4.7 million) in the third quarter of 2007, down 16% compared to the BRL9.8 million net loss reported in Q306, reports BNamericas citing a company statement. The cellco’s third quarter sales were down 1.63% year-on-year at BRL120 million, although EBITDA climbed 23.7% year-on-year to BRL26.3 million and the EBITDA margin improved from 19.7% to 23%. CAPEX for the three months to 30 September was BRL5.3 million, compared to BRL5.6 million a year earlier.
Amazonia ended the third quarter with 1.3 million subscribers, up marginally from 1.27 million at the same time last year. The operator is the sister company of Telemig Celular Participacoes (Telemig), both of which were acquired by Brazil’s largest mobile operator Vivo in August this year.
