Virgin upbeat after growth in customers

British cable group Virgin Media added 13,000 net new customers in the three months to 30 September 2007, compared to a loss of 70,000 in the previous quarter caused by a very public spat with BSkyB over carriage of selected Sky channels. At the end of September 2007 Virgin claimed an on-net customer base of 4.8 million; it added 20,400 new cable TV customers in the third quarter to take its total to 3.42 million, while 122,900 new broadband customers were added to take its base to 3.59 million. In addition it claimed 4.08 million fixed line telephony customers and 4.43 million customers to its MNVO operation Virgin Mobile.
