TIM Brasil reports increasing losses

Brazil’s number two mobile operator TIM Brasil, a unit of Telecom Italia, has reported third quarter losses expanding 30% year-on-year to BRL122 million (USD70.3 million), despite 16.3% revenue growth of BRL3.16 billion compared to the same period last year. EBITDA was BRL547 million in the three months ended 30 September 2007, down 4.9% y-o-y, while EBITDA margin fell to 17.3% (21.1% in 3Q 2006). Monthly ARPU in the third quarter did not change, at BRL34. TIM had 29.1 million subscribers at 30 September, up 21.1% in twelve months. 77% of customers were pre-paid.
