Mobily embarks on secondary 3.5G rollout

Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) has launched the first phase of the second expansion of its 3.5G network across Saudi Arabia in order to expand its reach to new cities and provinces, a company statement reads. The cellco has allocated around USD276 million for the secondary expansion programme, which has already begun in collaboration with three international technology vendors, Ericsson of Sweden, Finland’s Nokia and Chinese firm Huawei. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Mobily launched W-CDMA/HSDPA services in June 2006 and signed up 1.8 million 3G/3.5G users by end-June 2007.
