Telkom Kenya to upgrade payphone network

7 Nov 2007

Telkom Kenya says it plans to combat the continuing trend of copper cable theft by transferring its payphone network to CDMA-based fixed wireless technology. ‘We want to upgrade our services from the perennial cabled and troublesome infrastructure to a wireless and more reliable CDMA service. This will encourage mobility and modernity,’ says Telkom’s Managing Director, Sammy Kirui. The new public phones will also offer internet access, East African Business Week reports.
