SingTel regional subscriber base up 57% to 157m

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) today announced its regional subscriber base has hit the 150 million mark, a year-on-year rise of around 57%. The operator’s aggregate mobile subscriber base in eight markets – Singapore, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand – climbed from 100.77 million in Q306 to about 157.97 million a year later. The company said its most recent investment, Warid Telecom in Pakistan, contributed 11.87 million subscribers, while its Australian unit Optus reported a 4.5% year-on-year rise in subscribers to 6.89 million. In Singapore, SingTel’s mobile subscriber base reached 2.13 million at 30 September 2007 driven by net gains of 185,000 subscribers in the quarter, of which 163,000 were pre-paid.
