Telecom Fiji to spend USD33m on NGN upgrade

1 Nov 2007

Fijian local and domestic long-distance telephony provider Telecom Fiji has revealed it will invest USD33 million in its next generation network (NGN) to provide high speed data services to the country’s entire business community. The rollout will begin early next year, said Telecom Fiji group manager Ian Lyons, and will be implemented in phases over a three-year period. The operator hopes to usher in a number of new services in the first quarter of 2008 and says it has already spent USD7 million to install fibre-optic cables covering most of Viti Levu, (with the exception of a gap from Korolevu to Rakiraki), across the Suva Peninsula, Vanua Levu and Taveuni, reports local online journal Fijilive.
