J:COM 9M revenues, profits up on strong subscriber gains

Japanese multi-service operator (MSO) J:COM has released strong financial results for the nine-months to 30 September 2007, and revised upwards its forecasts for the full year. The company posted revenue of JPY194.4 billion (USD1.69 billion) in the Jan-Sep period, up 23% on the corresponding figure a year earlier. Operating income climbed 27% to JPY31.4 billion and net income was up 31% at JPY18 billion on the back of a 22% year-on-year rise in total subscribers to 2.62 million. The company’s total number of revenue generating units (RGUs) climbed by a similar percentage to reach 4.60 million by the start of October, it said. J:COM had 2.16 million CATV customers at 30 September 2007, up from 1.78 million a year earlier, as well as 1.18 million internet users (up from 953,000) and 1.26 million telephony subscribers (1.05 million).
