Rise in profit at Sonaecom

30 Oct 2007

The Portuguese alternative telco Sonaecom has reported a strong rise in third quarter net profits on the back of improved sales at its fixed line unit and its Software and Systems Information business. Net income increased from EUR2.3 million (USD3.3 million) in the period Jun-Sep 2006 to EUR7.6 million in the most recent period, while revenues were up 7.6% to EUR230.8 million. The fixed line division was boosted by the recent acquisitions of Tele2 Portugal plus the residential and SoHo assets of Oni Telecom. Cellular subsidiary Optimus saw a slight fall in revenues, from EUR162.5 million to EUR161.5 million following decreases in mobile termination rates and roaming fees, though subscriber numbers were up from 2.49 million in September 2006 to 2.76 million at the end of last month.
