Softbank Mobile plans new handsets, music download portal to entice users

Softbank is gearing up for its latest charm offensive in the Japanese mobile market, with the launch of ten new handsets and a music-download portal it hopes will challenge its larger rivals NTT DoCoMo and KDDI. The company has struggled thus far to offer an attractive music download service, but plans to rectify this with a new music portal, due to launch in mid-November. Its new handsets are designed to tap into the fashion-conscious nature of Japanese consumers and win market share in the crucial holiday run-up.
