Government to appeal EU ruling on illegal state aid

22 Oct 2007

The French government is reported to be launching an appeal against a recent European Court of Justice ruling that national PTO France Telecom (FT) must repay up to EUR1.1 billion (USD1.6 billion) in illegal state aid, writes Les Echos without citing sources. It is also understood that FT is reviewing the ruling and ‘analysing the consequences of this decision’, which would require the government to reclaim money in a firm in which it still retains a significant 27.4% stake. The legal case concerning the EC’s claim is not expected to be resolved until 2008.
