CableTel Bulgaria eyes Albania

19 Oct 2007

Bulgarian cableco CableTel has reportedly registered a subsidiary in Albania and has announced that by the end of the year it will have made ‘significant investments’ in the cable market. According to reports carried by Bulgarian newspaper Dnevnik, CableTel will expand its backbone in the direction of Albania, making it part of its cross-Balkan fibre-optic ring. ‘We control over 60% of the cable market in Macedonia and plan to ascend to the top position in Serbia within a year,’ said CableTel executive director Dimitar Radev. CableTel is also eyeing the Turkish cable market where expansion plans have been delayed by the ongoing privatisation of incumbent telco Turk Telekom.
