Bahraini incumbent Batelco has budgeted USD16 million for the third and final phase of its USD57 million nationwide next generation network (NGN) project, aimed at providing broadband access to all residents of the Kingdom. As part of the implementation process a further four areas, Al Jazaer, Al Wadi, Awali and Sakhir are being migrated to the new network this month. Batelco currently has more than 203,000 fixed lines, and by the end of this year 65,000 lines will have been connected to the NGN, giving access to triple-play voice, data and video services on a single line. The telco aims to complete the migration to the NGN by August next year.
