Porta reprieved

18 Oct 2007

An Ecuadorian judge has provisionally suspended a previous decision by telecoms supervisory body Suptel to sanction mobile operator Porta for charging tariffs exceeding the limits established in its operating licence, reports BNamericas quoting local daily El Comercio. Suptel’s sanction would have required Porta to suspend all mobile services for half an hour on 21 October. Porta, a unit of Mexican giant America Movil, appealed to a Guayaquil court on the grounds that Suptel has not been able to prove whether rates quoted by Porta’s customer service staff were actually billed.
