Thailand’s mobile market leader Advanced Info Services (AIS) has set a budget ceiling of USD600 million to launch and develop 3G services next year, reports the Bangkok Post, adding that the GSM operator plans to seek loans to fund a rollout of W-CDMA infrastructure with initial capacity of ten million users (roughly 40% of its subscriber base). The company stated that it is ready to begin its 3G build as soon as the National Telecommunications Commission opens the bidding for UMTS licences. AIS is also preparing to restructure its billing systems, launch new bundled service packages and increase overall efficiency to accommodate its fixed, mobile and broadband convergence strategy.
