MWEB acquires satellite ISP

The South African internet service provider (ISP) MWEB has acquired the pan-African satellite internet operator AFSAT, which offers services in 26 countries under the name iWay. AFSAT was established in 1994 and provides satellite-based internet services to both residential and business users. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Harry Aucamp, CEO of MWEB Africa, commented: ‘MWEB Africa’s strategy is to expand its presence and internet services throughout Africa. The acquisition of AFSAT will considerably strengthen our representation and underlines our commitment to be a leading player in this dynamic market. The AFSAT iWay service is a perfect fit with our current MWEB VSAT service.’ MWEB currently has internet operations in 16 African countries.
