Smart Telecom, a new cellular services provider in Indonesia which uses CDMA2000 1X and EV-DO-Rev A technology in the 1900MHz band, has announced the signing of a two-year supply contract with Axesstel, an Indonesian firm specialising in the design and development of fixed wireless voice and broadband data products. The agreement includes joint marketing and sales commitments for Axesstel phones and wireless broadband USB modems. In addition, Smart has agreed terms with the supplier for ‘enhanced feature’ phones and 3G gateways. Shipments of the phones and USB modems are expected to begin later this month, enabling the operator to launch its new 1xEV-DO network nationwide. Smart says its services currently cover more than 50 cities in Java Island and will soon be expanded to cover all regions in Indonesia.
