Telecom Italia France (Alice) to deploy fibre in Paris

15 Oct 2007

Telecom Italia’s French operation Alice plans to begin testing high speed fibre-optic broadband services in the 8th and 10th districts of Paris in the next few months, writes Telecompaper citing a report in Les Echos newspaper. It is understood the internet unit has selected its network supplier and will connect close to 500 buildings – targeting between 2,000 to 3,000 customers – for the pilot trial. Alice’s director of mass market operations, Daniel Fava, told the newspaper that the project is expected to cost in the ‘low millions of euros’. Telecom Italia France had 847,000 ADSL customers at the end of June, including 59,000 who had signed up to its IPTV service.
