SMARTS sells Telecom Eurasia to Tele2 Russia

Tele2 Russia has expanded its operations in the region of Krasnodor in southwest Russia, paying the SMARTS Group SEK160 million (USD25 million) for its local subsidiary Telecom Eurasia. The former SMARTS unit operates a GSM-1800 network which currently serves around 20,000 subscribers. Tele2 is Russia’s fourth largest cellular operator, with almost eight million subscribers and a 5.3% market share at the end of June, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
