MegaFon invites submissions from five 3G vendors

Russia’s third largest cellular operator, MegaFon, has narrowed its choice of 3G supplier down to five firms. Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, NEC, Nokia-Siemens and Huawei Technologies are being invited to participate in a tender for the supply of a USD1 billion UMTS mobile network, with applications to close on 10 December 2007. MegaFon says that the rollout may be split between several vendors, according to a report from CNews. MegaFon currently operates GSM networks supplied by Nokia, Siemens and Huawei.
