5 Oct 2007

Brazil’s third largest fixed line operator by subscribers Brasil Telecom (BrT) has selected Alcatel-Lucent to roll out commercial WiMAX networks in Sao Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Alegre, the Paris-based equipment manufacturer said in a press release. Alcatel-Lucent will deploy WiMAX networks based on the 802.16e-2005 standard (also known as Rev-e) which will enable BrT to launch advanced wireless broadband services in areas where terrestrial high speed links are not readily available. The French vendor is supplying base stations, wireless access controllers, backbone links, Ethernet MXC 9500 links, IP aggregation equipment, software and application platforms. The supplier will also take care of design and planning for end-to-end integration of the network, as well as provisioning services.
