The Swedish mobile units of TeliaSonera and Tele2 have signed a contract with Ericsson, via the cellcos’ joint 3G infrastructure venture Svenska UMTS, for the nationwide rollout of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) mobile broadband equipment to boost the maximum theoretical data download speed of their 3.5G networks up to 14.4Mbps, with a maximum speed of 7.2Mbps supported by currently available mobile devices. The rollout, which has already started, is scheduled to cover all major cities in Sweden by the end of the year.
