Anatel to discuss Telefonica’s TI takeover on 17 October

Brazil’s telecoms regulator Anatel plans to meet on 17 October to discuss whether or not to approve Telefonica of Spain’s purchase of a controlling stake in Telecom Italia (TI) through its holding company Telco, Thomson Financial cites Anatel’s Antonio Teixera Bedran as saying. The Spanish firm has a 50% stake in Brazil’s largest mobile operator Vivo, while TI controls number two player TIM Brasil. Telco, which includes Assicurazioni Generali, Intesa Sanpaolo, Mediobanca SpA and the Benetton family’s Sintonia in its make up, will own a 23.6% stake in TI after acquiring 18% from Pirelli and the Benetton family.
