Primus to increase fibre-optic network capacity ten-fold

2 Oct 2007

Primus Australia has announced it will boost its fibre-optic transmission capacity ten-fold in response to customer demand for broadband capacity. Primus Australia Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr Ravi Bhatia said: ‘This major investment will provide us with the platform to offer our customers with gold-plated super-fast video and audio streaming, IPTV, VoIP and other broadband services. This will be Primus’ next generation platform.’ Most of Primus’ DSLAM exchanges across Australia will be connected with transmission using Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM). Each site will be readily upgradeable to speeds as high as 10Gbps dedicated per site. The upgrade will be focussed initially on Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and then progressively rolled out to other centres.
