Andinatel permitted to enter cable market

Ecuador’s telecoms supervisory body Suptel has given local telephony and internet service provider Andinatel permission to offer cable TV services, reports BNamericas, with the northern incumbent aiming to launch services in a year’s time. There are approximately 133,000 cable TV subscribers in the country, according to Suptel, with five operators, Satelcom, TVCable, Univisa, Cablevision and Cableunion accounting for 97% of the market.
