Omantel board approves Worldcall purchase

Incumbent Omantel has announced that its board has approved the acquisition of a majority share in Pakistani telco Worldcall. Further details of the deal, which was announced on the Muscat stock exchange, were not disclosed, although rumours circulating earlier this year said that Omantel may acquire up to 76% of Worldcall for more than USD171 million. Finalisation is subject to the approval of Worldcall shareholders and Pakistan’s regulatory authorities, the company said. Worldcall offers a range of services in Pakistan including local loop, international calls and internet.
