BNamericas, quoting national statistics institute Indec, reports that the number of mobile subscribers in Argentina increased 35.5% to 37.4 million to the end of August 2007, compared to the same time last year. Mobile traffic for the month rose 36.6% year-on-year to 2.42 billion calls. Fixed line local telephony traffic rose 9% to 1.11 billion calls in August while domestic long-distance calls were up 19.7% to 221 million. The number of outgoing international long-distance calls rose 8.5%, while the number of minutes increased 15.4%. At end-August, there were 9.2 million fixed lines in service, 2.3% more than the same time last year. The number of public phones totaled 150,600, down 4.4%.
