Cablecos to invest USD500 million

1 Oct 2007

Argentinean cablecos Cablevision and Multicanal, both controlled by Grupo Clarin, plan to invest a total of USD500 million by 2010 on digital channels, broadband infrastructure and the introduction of voice services. The operators will add 50 to 70 digital radio and TV channels and expand broadband lines from 42% to 70% of the network so they can start providing voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) telephony, said a spokesman for the two companies. They plan to enter the voice market just as telcos Telefonica de Argentina and Telecom Argentina try to offer pay-TV over broadband lines, something the government currently prohibits.
