27 Sep 2007

The Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel yesterday auctioned off 20 blocks of spectrum for 2G mobile services, raising BRL347 million (USD188 million) in the process. Three blocks received no bids, reports BNamericas, leaving 82 unallocated blocks to go forward to today’s bidding round. Of the 20 blocks sold, 13 were won by Vivo (which paid BRL170 million), four by Oi (BRL151 million), two by Claro (BRL15.8 million) and one by TIM Brasil (BRL10.6 million). Anatel said that on average, operators bid 40% more than the minimum reserve price per block.
