Third MVNO licence awarded by Subtel

25 Sep 2007

Chilean telecoms regulator Subtel has awarded a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licence to local investment group Toro Bayo, writes BNamericas, referring to an announcement made in the state’s official gazette, Diario Oficial. The licence will allow Toro Bayo to lease capacity from one of the country’s three mobile service providers and resell it under its own brand. All three mobile network operators -Movistar, Entel and Claro – have objected to the process.

This is the third MVNO licence to be awarded in the last month. Following Telefonica del Sur (Telsur) subsidiary Blue Two Chile was the first receipient, followed by local VoIP provider Dotcom earlier this month.
