BNamericas reports that US satellite TV provider DirecTV plans to offer broadband services in Argentina via the network of local telecoms operator Telecom Argentina. DirecTV already offers digital satellite TV in the country, serving over half a million customers, and has been looking to ways of launching a broadband service. Satellite-based broadband was ruled out because the cost would have been too high. DirecTV’s marketing representative Alejandro Zunda Cornell said the company will only sell and bill the service, with transmission carried out by Telecom. It is thought the package of satellite TV and broadbnad, which is set to be launched in about six weeks, will cost approximately ARS120 (USD38) per month.
