U Mobile reveals launch plans

21 Sep 2007

U Mobile has officially unveiled plans to launch 3G mobile services within the next two months. Executive director Kenneth Chang revealed that the cellco’s 3G network is live in the Klang Valley and in other major cities across the country. Chang went on to say that a roaming agreement has been signed with Celcom, but he would not be drawn on how many 3G users the operator was hoping to attract, saying ‘It’s too premature to announce this, but we are targeting segments which we believe are currently untapped. The surveys we’ve done show that consumers are looking for a new player to offer them new services, and we know what they need and how to price it.’

In related news, U Mobile’s parent company has announced a name change to U Telecom Media Holdings. It was formerly known as MiTV Corporation.
