Brazil’s mobile user base close to 111m – Anatel

21 Sep 2007

By the start of September Brazil was home to close to 111 million mobile subscribers, up 2.2% from 109 million at the end of July, reports BNamericas, citing data from the country’s telecoms industry watchdog Anatel. The net addition of 2.4 million new users has taken many by surprise: the growth rate is the highest this year and eclipses the growth seen in May – traditionally one of the strongest months in the year for handset sales. Although full splits are not yet available, the preliminary data shows the pre-paid subscriber base stable at 80.5% of the total (89.1 million lines), with contract users accounting for 21.8 million.
