20 Sep 2007

Seattle-based wireless internet company Clearwire says it will launch WiMAX services in Portland in 2008, offering users fast web access based on the wireless technology. The company, founded by cellphone pioneer Craig McCaw, currently offers wireless access in other parts of Oregon (Bend and Eugene) using pre-WiMAX technology, but is currently launching full WiMAX trials in Beaverton and Hillsboro. The ‘beta trial’ covers 145 square miles west of Portland, and service is only available to pre-selected customers.
