Colombian telco Telefonica Telecom and cellco Movistar, both owned by Spain’s Telefonica, have launched a joint calling plan aimed at the residential market, BNamericas reports. The package allows subscribers to make mobile to fixed or fixed to mobile calls between Telefonica and Movistar lines at the same rate of COP69 (USD0.03) a minute. The plans, available nationwide, are post-paid with monthly costs starting at COP59,900. Telecom has offered a similar plan to corporations and SMEs, but this is the first time it has targeted the residential market. Telefonica’s plan comes on the heels of a similar offer from Colombian state-owned telco UNE EPM, which last week partnered cellco Tigo to offer post-paid mobile telephony to UNE’s residential fixed line customers. However, the UNE EPM plan is only available in the city of Medellin.
