Vodafone offers triple-play; Telecom plans internet TV

18 Sep 2007

Vodafone New Zealand has introduced a triple-play wireline, wireless and internet service. Customers who subscribe to one of Vodafone’s ‘You Choose’ mobile tariffs and also take the firm’s wireline service will receive twelve months of free broadband internet access, with a 1GB monthly download cap. Alternatively, triple-play customers will receive a discount on broadband packages with a higher monthly download limit.

Meanwhile, Telecom New Zealand has said it will be offering its first internet TV services sometime next year, although full IPTV services are not expected to be available until 2009. The initial launch will offer Freeview TV customers the opportunity to ‘trickle down’ programming over Telecom’s broadband network. A full IPTV offering will not be launched until Telecom’s copper networks have been upgraded to fibre, the company says, although the timing of such an upgrade is still in doubt as the regulatory situation has still to be clarified.
