Swedish telco TeliaSonera has signed up 200,000 subscribers to its IPTV services, after doubling its number of users since May. Aiming to encourage further take-up, last week it launched the Telia Smart all-in-one communications gateway, which equips a user’s household telephone jack with a single box providing broadband internet access, digital broadcast TV over ADSL, IP telephony, a built-in wireless network and a firewall. TeliaSonera also reported that its video-on-demand (VoD) services are proving popular, with film rentals nearing 1,000 per day in July. TeliaSonera says that it has upgraded exchanges covering 2.5 million households to receive IPTV services.
