17 Sep 2007

Brazilian voice telephony and internet provider Globel Village Telecom (GVT) hopes to inaugurate a residential service in Minas Gerais state capital Belo Horizonte this week, thanks to an investment of USD53 million to get the service off the ground. Local press reports suggest the company is targeting the launch in what is one of the country’s wealthier states and is spending the money to roll out 30,000 fixed lines and 13,000 ADSL access points in Belo Horizonte. GVT aims to reach about 20% of the residential market in Belo Horizonte by the end of 2008, writes BNamericas; it already offers corporate services in the city.
