NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, has announced plans to introduce new flat-rate data communication packages effective 22 October, enabling mobile PC users to connect to its FOMA network via a FOMA PC card, USB-linked DoCoMo phone or HSDPA-capable PC. The company’s ‘Flat-Rate Data Plan HIGH-SPEED’ will offer a 3.6Mbps (downlink) connection for JPY4,200 (USD36.40) a month for up to 500,000 packets of data, rising on a pay-as-you-go basis up to a maximum of JPY10,500 per month beyond one million packets. The plan requires subscription to DoCoMo’s new mopera U U Flat-Rate HIGH-SPEED Plan (JPY840/month) or Business mopera Internet (HIGH-SPEED) (JPY630/month) for internet access. The operator also plans to offer a 64kbps Flat-Rate Data Plan 64K for JPY4,200 per month, which also requires a subscription to mopera for either consumer or business purposes.
