The Russian internet service provider Synterra is reportedly interested in acquiring Multiregional Transit Telecom (MTT). Local press reports are linking Synterra with MTT, which offers domestic and international long-distance services. MTT is owned by Sistema (50%), the main shareholder in the Comstar UTS group of companies, and Gamma Capital (50%). Synterra is currently rolling out WiMAX wireless broadband networks in cities across Russia, and MTT’s national infrastructure would create a ready-made backbone network. Neither Synterra nor MTT have commented on the press reports.
