mobilis launches BlackBerry

The Algerian cellular operator mobilis has launched Research In Motion (RIM)’s BlackBerry wireless internet device for its corporate customers. Integration services are being provided by RIM’s local distribution partner, Alcatel-Lucent. Charmaine Eggberry, Vice President and Managing Director of RIM, EMEA, commented: ‘We are pleased to be extending the BlackBerry service in Algeria and are confident that mobilis customers will benefit from the enhanced communications, productivity and convenience enabled by BlackBerry smartphones.’ mobilis is Algeria’s second largest cellular operator, with an estimated 7.5 million subscribers at the end of June. It is a subsidiary of the country’s dominant fixed line operator Algerie Telecom, which is itself wholly state-owned.
